Sonia Medina, LMFT, LPC

Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Sonia and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. I began my studies at St. Edward’s University where I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology. I then completed my graduate studies in Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy at Our Lady of the Lake University. I am a child of immigrants and a first generation college student: two identities that have shaped my worldview. I speak English, Spanish, and sometimes Spanglish and have experience providing counseling in all 3. While in my graduate program, I received training for providing counseling services in Spanish. I have extensive experience providing services to adolescents and have worked with families, couples, and children as well.

How I Can Help:

In sessions with clients, I primarily use Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Collaborative Therapy to provide support and walk alongside clients as they navigate challenging situations. The common themes in my sessions include addressing the process of acculturation, life changes and transitions, multicultural family dynamics, anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, identity, self-esteem, and social relationships. Although I do not have direct experience working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, my beliefs align with affirming members of this community. I practice from a place of inclusion and solidarity with the belief that therapy should be accessible to everyone. In our work together, I will meet you with respect, compassion, and openness.

More About Me:

Some of my favorite activities include trying out new coffee shops or restaurants, attending concerts, working on puzzles, reading, and discovering new music.
