Kelvin Tung, MA, LPC, LCDC
Hello, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor at Mind Work. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree at San Angelo State University in 2012. I graduated from Texas A&M University – San Antonio with my Master of Art in Guidance and Counseling degree in 2018.
I started my work at a methadone clinic to help clients with their substance abuse issues. After that, I joined the Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) unit and provided treatment for people with severe mental illness who are most at risk of psychiatric crisis, hospitalization, and involvement in the criminal justice system. After a couple of years of working with complex care clients; I started working at the San Antonio Behavioral Healthcare Hospital for their inpatient behavioral health services. I provided individual counseling such as acute crisis, family counseling and group counseling in the hospital setting. In the past several years of working in the mental health behavioral field, I have gained various experiences working with clients suffering with different mental health issues, such as major depression, anxiety, bipolar, dual diagnosis, etc.
How I Can Help
We all have some struggles and obstacles in our lives, and it is important to have someone that can provide a safe place to talk about our struggles. As a counselor, I am willing to meet with you at this difficult point in your life. My goal is to provide a safe place for you as the client; to share your daily concerns, life stressors and struggles. As a competent counselor I will provide patience, empathy, respect, and acceptance through your sessions. I utilize the Client-Centered approach, and combine Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques.
